Marshall noted that Spielberg will be staying on as producer, and with Mangold’s love of the Indy franchise, everything is falling into place for production on Indiana Jones 5 to begin. “It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time," said Marshall.

The last time fans saw Harrison Ford in his famed fedora was for 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. At the time, it was noted that Ford was getting a bit old to be globe-trotting after famed artifacts and going toe-to-toe with baddies. Now 77, he doesn’t seem to be fazed by continuing as the iconic archaeologist.
While the script for Indy 5 is still in the early stages, the actor has noted that the plot will feature “new developments” for the character and that certain parts of his history will be resolved.
Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled for a July 29, 2022 opening, but it is still unclear how much the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the future of this production.
